This story once again proves how devoted animals are to their owners. A tragic incident occurred in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Not far from the bus stop, in a very busy area of the city, a pedestrian with a dog was hit.

Unfortunately the medics who arrived on the scene couldn’t save the man. He died on the same spot, and his dog, who had sustained several injuries, simply ran away due to stress. But some time later the animal was found at the same bus stop. Nayda, that was the dog’s nickname, was anxiously peering into the crosswalk where she had been with her owner for the last time.

So Nayda settled near the bus stop, hoping at least once again to meet with his owner. People who cared for the dog fed it and took care of it were sympathetic to its grief. After a few months, a kennel was even built for Naida, and then another. Overall, the dog lived a full life, but she longed for her deceased owner.

Neither volunteers, nor pet advocates, nor ordinary passersby who cared for Naida were able to pick her up. Each time she returned to the same spot. Naida spent almost 11 years in her makeshift street home.

Unfortunately, the devoted Naida suffered the same fate as her owner. In 2016, the dog was hit by a car in the same spot. Veterinarians and volunteers from Zoospas fought for her life for weeks. But street life, injuries, and a developing infection prevented Nyda from recovering. She died in the arms of one of the volunteers at the animal rescue center.

Faithful Nayda became a city celebrity during her lifetime, and now her memory is being memorialized. A monument was erected to Nayda, not far from where she died. Now the dog is known throughout the city as the Far Eastern Khatiko. Every year, local residents and volunteers come to honor Naida’s memory. To lay flowers or light a candle – even people from other cities come to the monument.
