One day, the fire department of Bensheim, Germany, received a very unusual call. The caller asked the rescuers to come and help the rat. Despite the unusualness of the call, the fire brigade hurried there. In addition to firefighters, an animal rescue team was invited too.
Upon arrival at the indicated place, the rescuers found a desperately squeaking rat, which was stuck in the manhole cover. At that moment, a decent crowd had already formed around the poor animal. The animal was stuck and could not escape such dubious attention. Her head, front legs and part of her torso stuck out from above, and the lower part of the body was hidden by a lid. The rat tried to twitch and squirm, but nothing helped, her plump belly did not allow her to crawl forward or go back.
Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and planned a rescue operation. Eight people took part in the rescue! In total, the entire operation lasted twenty-five minutes. The animal was not harmed. After successfully resolving the unpleasant situation, the rat was taken outside the city and released into the wild.
One of the rescuers explained that the rat managed to get stuck because it was too fat. Smiling, he suggested that the situation in their city is very favorable, since even rats can live happily and satisfyingly.
Firefighters claim that any life is valuable, and it is their duty to save anyone. In such cases, it doesn’t matter at all whether a person, a kitten or a rat is in trouble, any creature deserves help and has the right to be saved. Some may disagree with this interpretation, considering rats disgusting. But the truth is that animals can feel fear too and they want to live too.
