Two years ago, Jeyza realized her lifelong dream and became a model for Vogue Italia.
Jeyza Gary was born with ichthyosis, a rare hereditary disease that literally makes her skin come off in shreds every couple of weeks.
It’s a rare condition that affects one in 100,000 people and is inherited through a chromosomal abnormality.
It took Jase a long time to realize that there was something wrong with her appearance, that there was something unusual about her. It first occurred to her when she noticed that her parents were very protective of her.
When they went out on the street, everyone would stare, and it really bothered Jayza’s mother.
In high school, Jayza’s classmates told her that she should try her hand at modeling. She took professional pictures and sent them to several agencies.
When Jayza got a response with an invitation to New York, she couldn’t come – a hurricane was raging in North Carolina, where Jayza lived. Jayza worried that this might be the chance she was missing, but then she decided that if God wanted her to take the chance, the agency would write to her again. And so it did.
Jayza went to New York City. The Vogue agency got her another photo shoot.
