Kuroki-san and Mrs. Kuroki have become a true symbol of love for many people in Japan. They have lived together for decades, but the feelings between a man and a woman only grow stronger. Even serious trials could not break them.
Back in 1956, the couple moved to a farm in the village of Shintomi. The couple spent their entire lives there and raised their children.
Their dreams included a big trip in their old age, but it had to be cancelled. All because his wife developed serious health problems.
Mrs. Kuroki lost her eyesight almost completely because of diabetes. This severely hit the emotional state of the woman, she literally refused to leave the house and severed all of her social ties.
Thinking how to get his wife out of her terrible condition, Mr. Kuroki decided to plant a thousand “grass sakura”, his wife’s favorite flowers, in their garden. Within a few seasons, the garden was literally drowning in flowers.
Indeed, Kuroki’s plan worked. His wife began to spend more time outdoors, interacting with the locals: they began to stop by Kuroki’s house often to take pictures in this lovely garden.
In Shintomi, the couple’s garden is considered a real landmark and a symbol of true love. After realizing how popular their little shiba-zakur greenhouse had become, the Kurokis began inviting tourist groups to the garden. Several thousand people come there every year.
