A kind pit bull brought home a pregnant cat

For anyone who has ever seen a pit bull named Hades, it was hard to imagine that such a story could happen to him. The formidable-looking fighting dog, who lives in the Mexico City home of Juan Jose Flores, had brought home a pregnant cat.

The two animals had known each other long ago: the cat had begun to enter Flores’s yard. But the dog shunned the uninvited guest, while it did not show any aggression towards the cat. Pitying the poor animal, Juan began to feed it. Then the cat came into the yard even more often.

Everything changed when one day Hades began jumping around his master and attracting his attention in every way, as if he wanted to show him something. Eventually the dog and its owner walked to the kennel, where a surprised Juan Jose Flores discovered the pregnant cat he had been feeding. She was due to give birth to kittens any minute now.

When the cat went into labor, Hades didn’t move from the kennel. His owner was astonished to see the scene as if Hades had deliberately relinquished his position to the mother-to-be. When the kittens were born, the dog dragged his favorite bed from the house.

Hades showed no aggression toward the two newborn kittens, but allowed himself to lick them. Jose even suspected that Hades considered himself the father of the cubs. He was awfully affectionate around them.

It was decided to take the feline family into the house. Jose decided to keep the mother cat, she was named Nicole. But he would place the kittens with other families when they got stronger.

Flores says, “Hades did everything he could to help his neighbor. It’s a real example of selfless kindness.” He thinks his pet’s story should help people look at the so-called aggression-prone breeds in a new way.
